   Hello Jim:

You and I wouldn't like it if squatters moved in our homes while we
were on holiday. Nor would we say, "so what?" if our cars were stolen
because a thief saw it parked a while longer than others. But we're
   writing about poor netiquette here.

It's simply not polite to steal the thread of another. I'll grant you
that Ben made a simple & forgivable mistake that can be undone by
starting his own new thread. His apology is a plus and unquestionably
earns him a redo for his good character.

Are we creating a good example for others? It shouldn't matter how
long a thread has gone without a follow-up. Someone may find a
solution to megaziomek's standby/hibernate problem or wish to
   contribute meaningfully.

We need not go back to the law of the jungle here. Ben will be served
if he starts a new thread like we all should. That's the established
   norm.

   > Another aspect of civility is not unnecessarily causing trouble.

Civility can also be calling attention to wrong doing. Chaos should
   be replaced by order.

   Respectfully,
