   My hard drive did that to me about a week before it completely crapped out.   
      
   1) Turn off your computer   
   2) Disconnect the power & data cables from your master drive   
   3) Disconnect the ribbon data cable to the slave drive but leave the power   
   connected to it   
   4) Turn on the computer (it won't boot to desktop, of course) and listen to   
   the slave drive to see that the disk is spinning, and to see if it makes any   
   funny sounds.   
      
   If the drive isn't spinning or it's making funny sounds (it's usually a   
   clicking sound), then that drive is on its last legs.
