   Windows 98 will need a SATA driver for the motherboard controller.   
   Check the motherboard manufacturer's site to see if one exists. If   
   so,   
   install it then power-off and connect the SATA drive up and it should   
   work.   
   Alternatively, you may be able to enter the BIOS setup and set the   
   controller   
   to treat SATA drives as IDE (ie PATA.) I'm not familiar with the   
   E-Machine   
   model you mention, but this is a very common BIOS feature.   
   If the option exists and is set to 'legacy' (or whatever that BIOS   
   calls it),   
   Windows 98 will then see the HD contoller as a simple PATA one and   
   should work just like it did when you had only the PATA HD connected.
