   Generally, you press and hold the F8 key while the computer boots.   
   Exactly when you should press it varies from machine to machine.  I have   
   to time my keystroke to come after the BIOS loads but before Windows   
   begins to.  You may have to try it several times to find out when you   
   should hit it on your machine.  You'll know you got it right when   
   Windows responds with a menu asking how you want to start, with Safe   
   Mode among the choices.
