|    IE right-click not functioning, etc    |

From: jure.sah@guest.arnes.si              Hello,              I am trying to salvage a computer with Windows XP SP1, which was       infected by a number of trojans and viruses. The problem is that the       trojan apparently modified the NTFS file system as well as Internet       Explorer.              On the file system, when I run scandisk, it finds unused entries and       deletes them, but then the keyboard and mouse attached externally to the       laptop no longer function.              The problem with Internet Explorer is that right-click menus no longer       work, clipboard no longer works, the favorites cannot be modified and       the about window is blank when opened.              I have tried reinstalling IE, but all I get is a message either that an       installation is already in progress and I have to reboot (there is no       instalation in progress), or that it is already at the latest version.              I have also tried running "sfc /scannow" with the installation CD, but       it doesn't change anything.              There are no suspicious processes in the task manager (with show       processes from all users checked) and the anti-virus (Sophos) detects       nothing, Ad-aware also comes out with only MRU lists to delete.              I suppose it is obvious enough that a format and reinstall will solve       the problem but I want to try all other things first, because a format       and reinstall will not prevent the bugs from comming back into the comp       the same way they did the first time round.              Thanks for any help              --       Model: INFJ       Primary function: Coprocessor       Secondary function: Cluster commander              http://www.thought-beacon.net              Pay once per lifetime webhosting:       http://farcomm-it.com/?ref=jsah              "...need lots of luck,       a bit of Google,       and some Dust..."        -- CosMix              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
