   If you are talking about Microsoft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)   
   versions of XP and apps then the vendor is supposed to provide support at   
   least to the extent that they do function. Asking the vendor to show you how   
   to calculate the time adjusted rate of return of $637.22 over 17 years using   
   MS-Excel is not included.   
      
   If you are talking about 3rd party applications like McAfee, Norton etc then   
   MS has absolutely no responsibility for them working.   
      
   Read your licensing agreements and see if that gives you some leverage or   
   take at back as suggested as unsuitable.   
      
   As far as I'm concerned all of these freebies which mostly are 30-day trials   
   or severly hobbled versions are nothing but a bunch of garbage that   
   ultimately cause more trouble than they are worth.
