|    1:1 networking issues    |

From: seannmc@netzero.com              I have an XP Pro laptop. I'm trying to network it to 2 computers, one at       a time.              Machine 1 is a Win98 (not SE). Machine 2 is XP Home.              First, the checklist of the obvious (to avoid the Homer Simpson moment       --- DOAH).       1) I am using a XO cable       2) The computers have been assigned to the same workgroup name.       3) I manually configured the IP addresses and Submask to 192.58.0.1 |       255.255.255.0 (Mine) and 192.58.0.2 | 255.255.255.0 (Machine 1 or 2)       (Reminder, I'm trying to connect just 2 machines at a given time -- not       all 3 together)       4) I've assigned a name to my laptop's net bios for compatability to the       98 machine.       5) Each machine has a name.              Symptoms:       1) The nic's light up. (Houston, we have connectivity)       2) When I unplug the cable, my XP Pro pops up the "your cable is       unplugged" balloon.       3) I can't get the computers to find each other on the network.              Can anyone suggest what I might be missing?              Thanks.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
