   Assuming the .mpg files contain video, you'll need an MPEG2 (or possibly   
   MPEG1) codec.   
   Do you have a software DVD video player installed?  If so, you should have   
   the necessary MPEG2 codec.  If the files are videos taken with a digital   
   camera   
   or phone etc, they may be MPEG1, in which case install the software that   
   came   
   with the device which recorded them, and the correct codec will be   
   installed.   
   BTW, MPEG1/2 is licensed technology, so 'free' MPEG1/2 codecs are illegal -   
   just something to be aware of.
