After reading your earlier post about the "pirate" 64 bit Windows XP I'd
feel more comfortable if you went back to a version of XP you have paid
for. I don't visit them very often, but I suspect with a little CAREFUL
searching you could get a legitimate license at a reasonable price from
a place like E-Bay. You might even be able to buy a legitimate Windows
Vista license. Make sure you pick a vendor with good buyer feedback.

You might even be able to acquire a legitimate free license for Linux
online or on an optical disk included with a magazine aimed at Linux users.

Once you have a legitimate OS license you could try one of the popular,
free alternate news reader/mail applications like Thunderbird. Such
software might be safer than Outlook Express, which Microsoft hasn't
updated much lately because it has been superseded by more recent
   Microsoft mail and news applications.
