   I finally exported all monitor settings for all the controlsets from the   
   working laptop to the similar machine which refuses to set more than   
   1680x1050.   
   Now both EDID information is identical in the registries... But that did not   
   help either!   
   The bug seem to be elsewhere than in that registry records.   
   Someone with another track to follow?
