   You method might work if you reinstall the same operating system over   
   itself, but it's not likely to be effective in the situation being   
   discussed. If the C drive is wiped clean, all the application settings   
   will disappear along with the registry and the user application   
   settings folders. And Windows 7 stores some settings in different   
   places than does XP.
