   XP can read any old working IDE (PATA) DOS drive.   
   If there used to be another drive/CD on the cable, you may need to change the   
   jumper to (depending on drive)1st choice available:   
   1) Single   
   2) Master   
      
   If you can't read the drive, it may be what was dead (and not your monitor) or   
   the PSU went bad and took a whole lot more with it :(
