Somehow, I'm not getting through with my questions.
The card slot came with the computer. WindowsXP Pro has , until now,
always used the card with ease --- I used SD cards for back-ups of
   data files.
But, apparently, somehow I messed up Windows. Now it doesn't
recognize the card as existing. I do a new hardware search. It finds
it. But when I try to "install" it, Windows gives a message that it
can't do so because it can't find software. I ask for a search,
it crashes and goess to green screen. I have to unplug the computer
   and reboot to get anything.
The same thing happens when I try to use a USB hard drive.
I did a system restore back to a date that was before I realized
the problem but it hasn't helped.
