    It won't even run from it's CD --it starts up and freezes -- I   
   reinstalled but get the same result. Apparently. it needs something   
   from elsewhere (like an XP system something?) to run.

    I have no XP disk, it came installed. I have ACER recovery disks" but   
   the version of XP Pro on those is the original XP Pro before SP1,2,3,   
   etc.
