   Then try the method I suggested earlier. Get the run box up and type   
   sfc/ scandisk (the space is important) press OK. It will then check to   
   see if there are any system files missing/corrupt. It might ask for the   
   recovery disks several times to reinstall the missing files.   
   If the recovery disks won't work, try to borrow a recent XP disk from a   
   friend and try it again.
