       I am having such problems. My XP pro won't recognize   
   external hard drives in a USB port. I suppose I have either missing   
   or corrupt USP drivers for IDE drives. Thus my search for   
   driver fix/update.   
      
       cmd.exe   sfc /scannow   
   doesn't do a fix.
