   I couldn't find any appropriate references to sndvol32.exe in the   
   Registry - but I'm no registry expert...   
      
   What audio hardware is in your system?  It should be listed in the   
   Control Panel.  If you open up that link, or the appropriate program,   
   there may be ways to enable the tray icon, although it might be a   
   proprietary control.   
      
   If all else fails, there's a couple of Autohotkey scripts that will give   
   you convenient hotkeys for raising and lowering volume.  It's what I use.
