   The normal way of doing things with XP is:   
   1) install XP, pressing F6 if you have the BIOS set AHCI or RAID (see   
   Steve's note concerning having a floppy or USB drive with the AHCI   
   or RAID hard disk drivers ready.)  If set to IDE this is not necessary.   
   2) install the chipset drivers for the motherboard and reboot.   
   3) install the rest of the motherboard drivers (easiest if you have   
   already downloaded them to a USB drive etc.)   
   4) Use Windows Update to get all critical security patches.   
   5) Install your apps.
