|    permissions problem??    |
|    13 Sep 12 00:53:35    |
i have two pc's running xp - fully patched. both are domain machines and are       in the same ou in active directory so are pretty much set up identically. the       only real difference is in the software installed on them.       pc A is only running some work applications whereas pb B has some development       tools installed - vs2003/8 and sql server 2005              we use some web based software called MSP which allows us to take control and       remotely manage mobile devices. when selecting a device, a new window fires       up, runs a java applet, and allows connectivity to the remote device - bit       like a remote desktop        session.              If i run this as an administrator then this all works fine. the problem arises       when trying to run this as a std domain user.              pc A works fine, but on pc B when the new window fires up, the java applet       does not start and you are left with a nearly blank window (bit of text) and       no message. i have enabled the console in java and it is not getting that far       either.              the only thing i have come up with so far is to enable the developer tools in       IE and one thing i have noticed is this. as part of firing up the new window,       some scripting runs that tries to access the properties of the parent window.       the script halts        with an "access denied" error and if you check the locals window then you can       see this applies to all the attributes of the parent window. i believe this is       an ajax script              but my problem is that within a session, it either fails here every time with       this error, or it doesnt. i suspect its me not using the tool correctly rather       than the problem being intermittent but granted, this could be a red herring.              everything i read online about this problem points to the developers aspect of       it but we dont access to the source so changing that is not an option.               even defaulting the the security settings in IE results in change of behaviour       between the pc's               i believe the problem is permissions based somewhere along the line but i       really have no idea where to go with this now. any takers??              thanks in advance       nigel              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
