The       specs?              Your networking, or lack there of, could be lack of the proper driver.       Or the network chip/board could be bad. Are you using wireless or wired       networking? Wireless is more problematical.              Test the system by booting with a Linux Live CD design for older       hardware. Damn Small Linux (DSL) or Puppy Liunix are good ones. They'll       run on just about anything. If they work and everything on the machine       works, then the machine hardware is probably good. And the problem is       elsewhere.
