   The short answer is: nobody knows for sure, although, IMO, the evidence is   
   overwhelmingly in favour of a materialistic explanation of consciousness   
   as a phenomenon created by, and confined to, the brain.   
      
   It's an issue which crops up in this newsgroup from time to time, have a
