   Hmm, I don't think it's that...   
   It might have something to do with some activity in the brain pulsing rather   
   than being stable, or maybe some sort of desynchronization between areas of   
   the brain. Just as two tones of different frequencies may cause the   
   perception of a pulsing sound. Anyhow, I can't say I know what it was, but   
   it was pretty weird :-)
