   Actually, that's (clearly) a common misperception.   
   No-one knows which aspect of the measurement process collapses the   
   wavefunction.  In the Copenhagen Interpretation it's something (completely   
   undefined) to do with the consciousness of the observer.   
      
   IOW, it's a fix; which no-one can justify; which has passed into popular   
   consciousness.   
      
   There are at least three other explanations, none of which require   
   conscious observers; one of which gives better results than the CI.
