   I've been using a binaural beats program called sbagen to induce theta in   
   an attempt to learn something similar, some success; but not for more than   
   a few seconds at a time.

   I have a friend who sees hypnogogic hallucinations when she's tired.   
   Nothing major; just barely glimpsed movement around the edges of her   
   visual field mostly, and sometimes things would "emerge and scuttle" from   
   particularly dark shadows.
