   Not only that, some of them have a way of becoming semi-autonomous over   
   time -- capable of unexpected actions and resistant to control.  I've   
   seen it happen with recurrent dream and fantasy characters, and I've even   
   read of authors having problems with dictatorial fictional characters   
   telling them what to write.
