   I used to have a teacher who would sometimes, completely out of the blue,   
   perform some violently loud act, most probably triggered by an overabundance   
   of glazed, lethargic faces. I suggest the professor noticed the   
   million-miles-away look on Dick's face, quite possibly one shared by   
   numerous other members of his class, and decided on some brisk shock-therapy   
   to make them pay attention once again :-)
