   I wonder, if we all do it, but it's not largely in our conscious   
   mind. ie. We all do it, but forget about it when becoming conscious...   
   ie. awakening from sleep/dreams/etc.   
   That it's the 'reality' here, that keeps people from knowing everything.   
   It's kinda like that saying, that you're using only 10% or less of your   
   brain, and if you use towards the 90% you'll fry your brain with   
   the consequences of knowing all too much.   
   When you die (and other similar states) you're no longer tied to this   
   reality (because your physical body ties you here) - and so you're free   
   to roam away from your body.

   ability/consciousness/etc.

   I tried a long time ago - but didn't have much luck, just the   
   slamming back into the body feeling. Haven't had flying dreams in   
   a long time too.
