Sometimes there is proof; I dreamed once that a friend, an actor,
was leaving a plane and was upset that he'd left his jacket on the
aircraft. When I spoke to him by phone a week later, he said
that he had been out of NYC to do some dubbing and had left his
jacket on the plane on his return to the City . . .

I've had much more interesting dream-contacts with this person
which I've been told by a psychic friend were (often rather
garbled) memories of past lives in which we'd been monks in the
same monastery, or I was tutor to his children, etc. but none of
   that is probable.
