   I suspect it's a bird, imitating a telephone.   
      
   There was a type of phone called a "trimphone" which was very popular in   
   the UK about 20 years ago; with a distinctive ring; which, for some   
   reason, birds took to imitating all over the UK.   
      
   Very annoying for people who bought one ;-)
