   Two nights ago, I woke up at 3.am, vaguely aware that I was in bed, but then   
   I felt that I was floating in a dark place which seemed to stretch on for   
   ever in all directions. It was not pitch black nor as light as my bedroom   
   usually is, nor could I see the usual familar outlines of the furniture and   
   the window frame, there was nothing to "see" but I knew that I was floating   
   vertically. I started to panic and had to take control before I completely   
   "lost it".   
      
   Once in control, I became aware of  just how enormous and empty this place   
   was. It was an amazing experience, whatever it was. After a short while, my   
   view of it disappeared and I sunk into a sleepy state with coloured patterns   
   and then into a proper dream which followed the usual pattern that my dreams   
   do. When I woke, I could separate this experience from my dreams because   
   they were so familiar and it was something that I had never experienced   
   before. Any thoughts, anybody?
