   Good point.  IMO the reason is that they're using the wrong methodology to   
   "study" it.  ie, none, basically.   
      
   It seems likely to me that we won't see any progress in the area until   
   someone properly trained in the scientific methodologies which have been   
   so successful in the other fields they've been applied in gets to work on   
   it.

   A common experience!  It seems likely that certain people are just   
   prep-disposed to having these experiences; although you shouldn't give up   
   hope yet.
