   I've had several experiences *with* nitrous oxide, but only while having oral   
   surgery performed (I've had about 8 molars removed, 2 in each back corner.) A   
   little bit of other history -- I have an embolism in the right vertebral   
   artery of my brain (   
   google it if you want more details) but the point is that it feels like a   
   small brick in my head.  While under the nitrous, however, the permeation of   
   the NOS throughout my brain cancelled out the sensation of the brick, and for   
   a few periods of perhaps    
   a half hour or so on each occasion, I was blissfully relieved of the burden of   
   the brick in my brain.   
      
   Having said that, I'd like to point out that self-administered nitrous is   
   *extremely* dangerous -- it is not only an anesthetic but if taken without   
   restraint will lead to coma and death.   
      
   But since you brought up the subject of NOS, I'd like to bring up an anecdote   
   regarding a man who had stage IV terminal cancer and was using it to relieve   
   the pain, and ended up (over time) encountering complete remission.  I would   
   be *very* interested    
   in hearing if anyone else has tried this method of pain management with   
   subsequent remission.
