   Domestic violence and self-control

In many situations of domestic violence, the woman does not dislike the
partner. She dislikes the violence. And she would be willing to stay if the
man gets a grip on himself.

While many claim that these men need psychiatric treatment, in many situations
that is not the case. The man simply needs to learn self-control. I was for a
   long time with a woman who was quite argumentative and frequently insulting;
   but I was never
violent or abusive to her. If I can do it, then so can the next man.

Now many of these men do not believe in non-violence or women’s rights; but
they do believe in character. And character means controlling what you do with
your fists and your mouth. The man who beats up on his wife fails to exercise
   character; which
means that by his own standard he fails.

One of the worst things in the world is a strong man without self-control.
Such a man becomes an absolute nightmare to everyone who has to deal with him.
He uses his strength inappropriately, against people who do not pose a danger
   to him or to his
family. In many cases this results in him losing his family. In any number of
other cases it results in the death of the partner or the kids.

Most of these men, once again, do not need treatment. They need to learn
self-control. And that is something of which everyone is capable, whatever may
be wrong with their psychology or their brain.
