I'm very much in love with using the "Terminal" app
(from the "Play Store", probably) on my Chromebook, which
presents some Linux. But I'm pretty minimalist about what
I install in it to avoid future re-creation-of-environment
   misery.

I'm pretty sure the default shell is bash. I'm pretty
sure my only Absolute Must Haves are 'vim', 'tmux', and
'Lua'. I back up vital content to a couple ancient USB mass
storage devices from time to time, and feel like I could
basically recreate what's important to me pretty easily.

"Pretty sure" because I didn't write such things down,
primarily because experience tells me I'd lose what I
   wrote it in/on anyway.

*And* I keep re-learning that I don't need nearly as much
as I occasionally come to delusionally believe I do, so
"moving on" often provides some nice cleansing away of
   inessentials.

One annoying thing is somewhere along the line I started
getting notifications about upgrading the "Terminal"
app, but it always fails for reasons I'm too lazy
to investigate, because the errata is voluminous, and
attempting to understanding feels like more work than it's
worth. I'll stick with whatever version it is, and when
the Chromebook finally dies, "oh well".

But it is pretty annoying that something like that doesn't
"just work" given modern hype about the amazing-ness of
   "tech".

I'm pretty sure I messed with gnus a few decades back when
I was agonizing over whether to commit to emacs or to vim!

   Such heady times, those! :-)
