   I wish I could remember why I wound up preferring it to lynx.   
      
   I usually invoke it by way of a Lua script called   
   "el". Staring at it now, I'm not quite sure of all that   
   it attempts to do. Near the top there's something about   
   testing the specified URL to see if an SSL error occurs,   
   and then use "lynx" instead, so I imagine I learned   
   the latter has less (or no?) issues with SSL. It also   
   attempts to do some character encoding of the specified   
   URL, so either elinks had trouble with some URLs, or I   
   did that to avoid trouble when finally invoking elinks   
   in the shell ( forbid it contain an ampersand, for   
   example...). Invoking with TM in the environment directs   
   it to open the elinks session in a new tmux window. A few   
   other things....

   No idea what to tell you. I imagine it did some comparison   
   testing way back, and concluded it was best for me. But   
   I don't remember the test details.
