One thing I find very underrated with terminal tools is that they are
generally very simple to understand. I don't know a lot of C, but with
terminal tools I can still get a feeling for what they do and rewrite some
parts of the tools if I wish. Usually I just search for a string that
appears in the user interface to get me to the general place where what I
want to happen, should happen, then a bit of "copy paste" a bit of
tweaking, compiling and voila... a terminal program that does just what I
   want!

I've never managed to do that with a GUI program such as thunderbird och
firefox. I wouldn't even know where to start with those behemoths.

Well, in this case, life and my needs will decide for me, eventually.
