|    Revisiting the "asshole-theory"    |

From: oldernow@dev.null              One of the downsides of my father visiting is he likes       having a particular news channel playing all day. That's       his choice, so whatever.              But *my* having to perpetually hear the clueless -       regardless of side/tribe - gets old quickly.              At the moment, someone is speaking at some "trade union       conference" (where the president will supposedly be       speaking in less than an hour... I'll likely need to       leave the room to avoid having to listen to that babbling       idiot wax incapable-of-doing-the-job...) in favor of trade       unions, what a wonderful thing they are, how we need to       bring the message of the wonderfulness of trade unions to       those without union jobs, etc., etc.              I guess I understand the deluded motivation. But, my effing       *gosh*, it seems to me the pinnacle of what's usually       referred to as "rocket science" to ignore that trade unions       - like all collective systems - can (and almost certainly       will) devolve to doing more harm than good the far more       fundamental problem of ego manifesting as asshole-ism to       each other isn't *first and foremost* addressed.              At least *some* conservatives *somewhat* understand this       by putting their trust in the "free" market to deliver       good/jobs in proportional to how big an asshole one wishes       to be.              But liberals should have their collective picture taken to       serve as the image shown first on the Wikipedia "Bat Shit       Crazy Delusion" page (were there such a page), because       their solutions almost always presume the non-existence       of assholes, and thus couldn't possibly work for long       in practice.              --       oldernow       xyz001 at nym.hush.com              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
