XPost: alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, can.politics       From: katt@gmail.com              On Tue, 6 Jan 2026 16:59:06 -0000 (UTC), The Doctor says...              > And it stays that way!              Who says... you?              LOL              Jeez... you write like a teenaged nerd.              And it stays that way!              Don't touch my toys!              Ever heard of buying or purchasing or... COFA?                     There is a long and DOCUMENTED HISTORY of US OFFICIALS FORMALLY EXPRESSING       INTEREST in PURCHASING Greenland. While the idea has gained renewed attention       under President Trump, IT IS NOT A NEW CONCEPT in American foreign policy.              Step 1: Historical Precedents              There have been several instances where the US government officially or       internally pursued the acquisition of Greenland:              Secretary of State William H. Seward (who negotiated the purchase of Alaska)       commissioned a report on Greenland and Iceland, considering their purchase       "worthy of serious consideration."              During negotiations for the Danish West Indies (now the US Virgin Islands),       some US officials suggested acquiring Greenland as well, though the final deal       only included the Virgin Islands.              Under President Harry Truman, the US made a formal, secret offer to Denmark to       buy Greenland for $100 million in gold. The State Department at the time       viewed it as a 'military necessity" for Cold War defense.              2019: DURING HIS FIRST TERM, President Trump PUBLICLY CONFIRMED his interest       in PURCHASING Greenland, stating it would be "strategically nice" for the US       to own.              2025-2026: Recently, the Trump administration has RENEWED THIS FOCUS, with the       White House confirming that acquiring Greenland is a "national security       priority" and that officials are discussing options ranging from a "Compact of       Free Association" TO AN OUTRIGHT PURCHASE.              =====              A Compact of Free Association (COFA) is a unique international AGREEMENT where       a small nation is technically SOVEREIGN AND INDEPENDENT, with delegates       specific powers-usually defense and security-to a larger nation (in this case,       the United States) IN EXCHANGE for economic aid and other benefits.              It is essentially a 'middle ground" between being a totally separate country       and being a US territory.              Step 1: How the COFA Model Works              If Greenland were to enter a COFA with the US, it would generally follow the       model used by three Pacific island nations: Palau, Micronesia, and the       Marshall Islands.              Sovereignty: Greenland would be an INDEPENDENT COUNTRY with its own seat at       the UN and its own government.              Defense: The US would be responsible for Greenland's defense. This gives the       US "strategic denial" rights, meaning the US can prevent any other military       (like Russia or China) from using Greenland's land, water, or airspace.              Economy: The US provides significant annual financial grants and access to US       domestic programs (like the Postal Service or disaster relief).              Migration: Greenlandic citizens would typically be allowed to live and work in       the US indefinitely without a visa, and vice-versa.                     NO ONE is talking about taking Greenland by force.              =============================================================================              "Trump Derangement Syndrome" Is a Real Mental Condition              All you need to know about "Trump Derangement Syndrome," or TDS.              "Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is a mental condition in which a person has       been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of Donald Trump, to the       point at which they will abandon all logic and reason."              Justin Raimondo, the editorial director of Antiwar.com, wrote a piece in the       Los Angeles Times in 2016 that broke TDS down into three distinct phases or       stages:              "In the first stage of the disease, victims lose all sense of proportion. The       president-elect's every tweet provokes a firestorm, as if 140 characters were       all it took to change the world."              "The mid-level stages of TDS have a profound effect on the victim's       vocabulary: Sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting solely of       hyperbole."              "As TDS progresses, the afflicted lose the ability to distinguish fantasy from       reality."              The Point here is simple: TDS is, in the eyes of its adherents, the knee-jerk       opposition from liberals to anything and everything Trump does. If Trump       announced he was donating every dollar he's ever made, TDS sufferers would       suggest he was up to something nefarious, according to the logic of TDS.       There's nothing - not. one. thing. - that Trump could do or say that would be       received positively by TDSers.              The history of Trump Derangement Syndrome actually goes back to the early       2000s - a time when the idea of Trump as president was a punch line for late-       night comics and nothing more.              Wikipedia traces its roots to "Bush Derangement Syndrome" - a term first       coined by the late conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer back in 2003.       The condition, as Krauthammer defined it, was "the acute onset of paranoia in       otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency - nay -       the very existence of George W. Bush."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
