So you were asked to relay it to real media, and you post it to an internet
   newsgroup?
   Congratulations for "doing your part".

It sounds plausible. There are two possibilities. Either what they're
telling you is true, or the author of this tale has a personal grudge of
some sort against the CO. In both instances, relaying the story to who you
were asked to should get the job done. If the CO didn't do this, they'll
find out, and if he did, he needs to go.

Do as they asked, and all will right itself.
