From: Barking@The.Moon              Wisconsin has a law known as the FEA, this law makes it unlawful to       discriminate against ex-cons based solely upon a felony conviction.              Cases like this are handled through the EEOC. There have only been 2 cases       which were ever brought against employers under FEA which had any teeth, and       those cases did not win any cash awards. In other words, felons are simply       not suing employers who discriminate. I just dosent happen. Most felons       probably never even heard of the FEA, nor do they understand that they have       any employment protection from discrimination.              The problem is quite simply that employment discrimination against ex-cons       in Wisconsin is rampant, despite the law. It is an unbridled force which has       contributed to the formation of a huge ghetto on Milwaukee's north side. I       have personally experienced this discrimination and I can tell you that it       is very similar to what I had always contemplated as 18th and 19th century       southern racism against blacks in the US. I do not advocate suing anyone for       discrimination like this. I think that there are much better approaches to       suing and passing new laws. We do not need new laws - we only need common       sense.              This is the basis of the mission upon which I have now embarked. I cannot       blame employers for not wanting to hire sex offenders, murderers, or       thieves. I understand their position. But at the same time, if we do not       break the process which is currently in motion, the ghettos will grow like a       nasty infection. I will not allow this to happen to any society where I       reside. This cannot be allowed to continue. There is a solution and I shall       find it, or I shall die trying.                                   > Ok, Critter.       >       > What, fully, is proposed as AB 353?       >       > Is it ONLY about felons, or is it tacked onto something else/something       > tacked onto it?       >       > The full nature of the bill could predict the likelihood of it being       passed.       > This is why lawmakers all too often tack a pay-raise to a bill they know       > will pass.
