   I think that he meant profit in terms of eliminating dosts associated with   
   crime, but having prisons does provide employment to about 1/2 million   
   people.   
      
   I dont think that the idea of profit is really relevant. The best you can do   
   is to minimize losses, but you are always losing. There is no way to do it   
   in the black.   
      
   Eventually, like what we see today, huge prison populations begin to affect   
   GDP GNP and tax base, while draining gov money, human spirit, and destroying   
   social fabrics.   
      
   It really isnt a beneficial enterprise in the long run.
