Prostitution's illegality has nothing to do with choice. It's a regulatory
   issue.

   > Use of certain drugs are illegal.

Use of drugs with harmful side-effects, such as addiction?

   > And if polls are to believed, MOST Americans don't
   > believe that abortions should be allowed on demand, any time, for any
   > reason.

Well, abortions ARE allowed on demand, any time, for any reason.

There is a time limit on this option, however. Our beloved President Bush
has signed into law a means to prevent medically-justified abortions which
could save the life of the mother, but otherwise there is still a limit on
how far ahead of development the fetus can be aborted.

   > Why? Because NO ONE knows exactly when a human fetus becomes
   > a human being.

Not necessarily. Polls aren't really about knowledge, usually they're about
   opinions.
   Hence, opinion polls.

   > Proborts claim that since no one knows, it must be ok
   > to kill it...

I don't recall anyone on the pro-abortion side making that statement.

   > pro-lifers want to err on the side of the unborn.

Not usually. I've noticed that over 50% of the so-called pro-lifers are
merely "stuffing" advocates that tend to move from one cause to the next.
Possibly just interested in shaking things up, rather than having real,
   steadfast beliefs.

   > I happen to think there probably are instances where, for medical
   > reasons, an abortion is warranted to save the life of the mother...but
   > those abortions are extremely rare.

Thanks to President Bush, such abortions, to SAVE THE LIFE OF A MOTHER,
   are now ILLEGAL.

   > The vast majority of abortions in
   > the US are done on perfectly healthy mothers with perfectly healthy
   > fetuses...i.e., abortion used as birth control. There is something
   > extremely unsettling about that, imho.

Agreed, unsettling. But it's alot more humane than having the child in
secret, then placing it inside a dumpster, to die. That seems to be alot in
   the news lately.

   > We're supposed to raise
   > children to respect life, right? We want them to NOT be violent
   > towards others, kill, rape, etc...? Yet we as a nation allow women to
   > suck the contents of a developing human life out of their wombs for no
   > other reason than they don't want it. And that my friend, in a
   > civilized society, *IS* bewildering.

Not really all that bewildering. We've become a disposable society. Home
broke? Find a new one. Hammer broke? Buy a new one. Don't like your
couch? Fuck that, throw it away and get another.

I'm sure somewhere along these lines, it became translated into our health
choices. Why buy healthy foods when you can pop vitamins? Why endure pain
when you can have a shot and have it all go away? Why get the flu like
everyone has for centuries, when you can get a shot?

   Abortions, unfortunately, have become a quick-fix. And, it's everyone's
   indirect fault.
