They could also face separate internal breach       of conduct charges that could lead to dismissal.              The officers are alleged to have physically and sexually assaulted a       24-year-old remand prisoner at the Dame Phyllis Frost women's jail in Deer       Park.              The allegations have been made separately against each officer, Mr Anderson       said.              The woman, who has been certified, was in the prison's special management       unit at the time. She has since been transferred to a psychiatric hospital,       Mr Anderson said. He said the issue of whether or not consent was involved       was fundamental to the police investigation, which is being handled by the       police prison squad.              The chief psychiatrist has custody of the woman and a decision about the       pregnancy would be made by him in consultation with the woman, Mr Anderson       said. The woman has been committed for trial on property-related offences.              As a result of the allegations, the secretary of the corrections department       has asked the independent monitoring body, the Corrections Inspectorate, to       conduct an internal review of the alleged incident that would likely include       prison procedures.              Mr Anderson said if the pregnancy goes to full term and the woman is still       in custody, she could apply to have the child with her in custody. He said       he was satisfied that any sexual abuse of the prisoner was an isolated       incident.              http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/08/21/1061434985429.html?from=storyrhs              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
