Newbies FAQ - The REAL One
   18 Dec 03 12:47:15

   From: rrufiange@cfl.rr.com

Greetings, and welcome to alt.prisons. newsgroup (NG).

First off, I'd like to welcome you to a great place, although sometimes it
can seem from our posts that we may have no clue where the hell we are, or
what we're after, for the most part we're interested in incarceration, and
all the troubles or concerns involved therein.

Unlike what some other FAKE FAQs might lead you to believe, killfiling
should only be done by your own choice, and killfiling everyone who works
for DOC (Department of Corrections) will limit your access to genuine
information, and will prevent you from getting all sides to a story. Say
for instance you posted a request for a DOC phone number or address, so you
could write to a loved one. Killfiling all DOC personnel would prevent you
from seeing the information you might need. You'd be at the mercy of
second-hand data, which may or may not be wrong. Besides, some of these DOC
guys and gals have interesting stories or ideas, sometimes.

This is a newsgroup, and while an unmoderated one, your stay here will go
along much more smoothly if you take afew guidelines into consideration.

   1 - Nobody likes a SHILL/TROLL.

Shills are people with get-rich schemes, SPAM, etc. Trolls you've probably
already seen. Their goal is to waste bandwidth on useless arguments, more
often than not arguments which aren't even on-topic for the newsgroup. So,
if you can't say anything atleast interesting to a good many people, shut
   up. ;-)

   2 - Topic Posts.

We prefer an ON-TOPIC thread of discussion, although this can't always be
   helped.
It's free-spirited here mostly, but if you're going to go flying off into
bestiality land or rec.boats.building newsgroup topics, etc.., please give
us a clue in the subject like by adding OT in there. Example subject -
"OT - My nose hairs and other beauty tips.."

If you're selling something, try and put FS or FOR SALE in the subject line.
Example "FOR SALE - Dildo used by Michael Jackson.."

It may not seem like much, but letting us know what we're reading before we
do read it can save alot of wasted scrolling. We'll thank you in the best
way possible, by not killfiling you, or by not starting a Flame War.

   3 - Flame Wars.

You've seen it already, chances are. A dozen or more posts, all hated
insults about your mother, dog, sister, cat, best friend, deceased relative,
or all of the above in a hot tub with Satan. It happens, but it doesn't
have to be boring. Please, if you're going to flame someone, atleast make
it funny, or interesting, or both.

   4 - Chaos Theory.

We are an unmoderated group. No one has to listen to anything or anyone,
and it is hoped that through random chaotic posting that we'll become an
amalgam of varied ideas and views. No matter how diverse, everyone's
   opinion counts for something.

I have no one on killfile, myself. It's a personal decision for me, and I
figure why bother when you can see who is posting or what they post in the
subject line? I know, someday I may end up having to use it, but I haven't
   yet.

Bottom line, chaos breeds free thought, free thought breeds creativity,
creativity breeds people with big mouths who like to talk. Talking is what
this newsgroup is for. So, for the most part, life is good.

Note : While this is a "genuine" FAQ, it is neither official, nor binding.
Only serving as an example of favorable conduct and practices. Spread the
   chaos, in fun ways.
