(QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A convicted murderer who escaped from a       hospital during a checkup has been captured in Kannapolis after an overnight       raid on a hotel that ended a three-day manhunt for the fugitive who had been       on the lam.              Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the FBI, and Kannapolis Police conducted the       operation around 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at the Microtel Inn & Suites on       Cloverleaf Parkway, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, whose       jurisdiction is part of        the area where the man, Ramone Alston, 31, escaped.              New video obtained by Queen City News shows the moment Alston was taken into       custody.              Alston was serving a life sentence for the 2015 Christmas Day murder of a       one-year-old child in Chapel Hill and is now facing additional charges for       escaping.              The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said a female acquaintance of Alston’s,       Jacobia Crisp, was also arrested in Alamance County and faces charges that       include aiding and abetting a fugitive.              Hundreds of officers and numerous agencies assisted in the three-day statewide       manhunt.              NC Governor Roy Cooper had previously announced a $50,000 reward for       Alston’s capture.              The U.S. Marshals Office, FBI Charlotte, and officials from the Department of       Corrections held a news conference ON Friday afternoon where they praised the       swift, joint, around-the-clock effort by law enforcement agents to capture       Alston.              Corrections officials said that Alston was successfully able to remove leg       restraints and are investigating exactly how he was able to do that. Some       corrections officials have been reassigned, not suspended, while the       investigation takes place, officials        confirmed.              Officials said they are continuing to investigate the relationship between       Crisp and Alston.              https://www.qcnews.com/news/u-s/north-carolina/kannapolis/escape       -murderer-captured-in-kannapolis-after-3-day-manhunt/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
