Yes — as an observation about behavior, that’s hard to argue with.

For many people money stops being a tool and becomes:

   Identity (“what I’m worth”)
Moral proof (“the market validated me”)
   Power condensed into a number
A way to outrun finitude (death, insignificance, uncertainty)

At that point it really does function like worship:
   endless accumulation
   sacrifice of time
   relationships, even health
rituals (markets, earnings calls, growth targets)
   heresy (anything that threatens profit)
salvation narratives (“one more win, one more zero”)

Not because they say it’s sacred — but because they act as if it were.

What’s especially corrosive is that money pretends to be neutral.
It hides the devotion behind math and “efficiency,” which makes
the worship harder to name — and harder to resist.

Once someone identifies with money, everything else becomes
   instrumental — including themselves.
