   I gave your previous remarks some thought since last night,   
   and I suspect that you may be right.   
      
   I would *Definitely* say that "Go ahead, let them have the   
   drugs" should NOT be the first course of action. Nor the   
   second. But this dude was in rehab since he was 15. I think   
   it was safe to say even 10 years later that he was never   
   ever going to be forced to clean up. If he could have had a   
   legal way to do it, dad should have just put a small condo   
   in the inner city in a trust fund for the guy, set up another   
   trust fund with a weekly dispersal and let him decide when   
   he wanted to clean up.   
      
   Sociopaths are made. And his 15+ years of lying and manipulating   
   had become fixed. Forcing him was likely invoking his defenses,   
   not his best judgement.
