   An AI thing just told me that the point you made about   
   birds is one cause. Another are flood events, as I   
   mentioned previously. But another possibility that   
   I had not considered are underground waterways, with   
   the underground water table providing water to an   
   isolated lake or pond -- and fish arriving in the   
   lake or pond through the underground water table.   
      
   And, of course, there are some lakes and ponds   
   that are artificially stocked with fish by game   
   and wildlife officials.
