   Of course you're right but...   
      
   You're up against two realities here. The first:   
      
   Part of the problem with "Feudal" or highly stratified   
   societies is that they can be completely unstable. This   
   is because the people at the bottom are always willing   
   to fight, because they feel they have nothing to lose,   
   see no other way to improve things...   
      
   The second reality:   
      
   "The secret to happiness is to want what you've got."   
      
   People tend to want what they don't have. And if you   
   give them something they want, they stop wanting it   
   BECAUSE THEY ALREADY HAVE IT! But they do continue to   
   want, just new things they don't have.   
      
   So both of these realities are at work here.
