   Today is to honor the infants in Bethlehem who were   
   killed by order of King Herod in his attempt to destroy   
   the newborn Jesus (as told in Matthew 2:16–18).   
      
   In Christian tradition, they are honored as martyrs,   
   even though they were too young to consciously choose   
   faith—hence sometimes called “martyrs by blood.”
